Activities

Bird Watching

With its mix of wetland, forest, and open water habitats, RRNP is a birdwatcher’s haven. Bring your binoculars and field guide, or just your curiosity, and experience a wide variety of native and migratory bird species.

Trail Walking

Traverse approximately 1.5 miles of trails that wind through diverse terrain: boardwalks over wetlands, leafy forest paths, and scenic viewpoints. It’s perfect for leisurely strolls, nature runs, or a quiet walk to clear your mind.

Research Laboratory

We share scientific and conservation updates through partnerships with Anderson University, Clemson University, Tangled Bank Conservation, citizen scientists, and community groups. Research at the park includes swamp rabbit studies, water quality monitoring, and habitat evaluations, helping strengthen regional conservation while connecting science, education, and stewardship.

Educational Outreach

We partner with local K–12 schools to support education and student engagement through youth and community programming. Using the park as a living classroom, participants explore ecosystems, practice field science, and learn about pollinators and habitat conservation while building a deeper connection to nature.

Kids in Parks

Rocky River Nature Park participates in the Kids in Parks Track Trail program, encouraging families and students to explore nature through self guided outdoor activities. The program helps young visitors learn about wildlife, ecosystems, and the outdoors while making time outside fun and engaging.

SC Adopt A Stream

Through South Carolina Adopt A Stream, students and citizen scientists participate in hands on water quality monitoring at the park. These activities teach field science skills while helping track the health of local waterways and wetlands.

Anderson County Beekeepers Association

Through a partnership with the Anderson County Beekeepers Association and Anderson University’s Ecology Club, beehives have been established at Rocky River Nature Park to support pollinator education and hands-on learning.

Upstate Forever

In partnership with Upstate Forever and TreesUpstate, volunteers worked at Rocky River Nature Park to remove invasive plant species and plant native trees and grasses. These hands-on restoration efforts help strengthen wildlife habitat and improve the health of the park’s wetlands and surrounding ecosystems.

Scouting Partnerships

Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and local Anderson-area scouting groups regularly assist with trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and caring for wildflower gardens at Rocky River Nature Park. Working alongside Anderson University and community partners, their work supports wildlife habitat while helping young people develop leadership and environmental stewardship.
