The Rocky River Conservancy (RRC) was founded in 2010 by local citizens passionate about protecting Rocky River and its surrounding wetlands. In May 2011, RRC received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, solidifying our commitment to conservation, education, and community engagement.
From the very beginning, our goal was simple: to take an underused city “swamp” and unlock its potential for residents and visitors alike. Through collaboration with Anderson University, the City of Anderson, Anderson County, and other community partners, we established the Rocky River Nature Park (RRNP) which is now a thriving natural space for people, wildlife, and education within the Greater Anderson, South Carolina.
Since our founding, Rock River Conservancy has:
The fundamental philosophy of the Rocky River Conservancy, and its partners, is to manage the Rocky River Nature Park for optimal biological diversity within its numerous habitats while allowing the local community access to and enjoyment of these habitats. The balance between what we believe to be a “natural” habitat and its human use will always be managed to give primacy to the habitat and its associated flora and fauna.
The Conservancy also seeks opportunities to connect the Rocky River Nature Park with other planned community recreational and environmental resources to provide a comprehensive network of unique venues to promote a special “sense of place” in Anderson, South Carolina.
Spent the afternoon on the trails with our Arrow of Light Scouts finishing up their final adventures before crossover. Watching them explore habitats, identify trees, and connect the dots between wildlife and environment, there’s no better classroom than the outdoors.
